Whole and Healthy, or Selfish Ambition?

Whole And Healthy, Or Selfish Ambition?

This is a question often in my mind: Do you want to be whole and healthy, or is this selfish ambition?  I have to stop and assess where I am emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically.

If there is any frustration involved or I’m constantly “looking” for change in my physical body, then that is a red flag for me. This has been a struggle for me most of my adult life.  I learned to love working out about 15 years ago now, but it became more of a vanity issue for me rather than being healthy.

Therefore I trained excessively to the point that I was never really happy, and it was really hard for me to maintain that “look”–you know the one where you hope to achieve the look of the fitness girl on the cover of the magazine. That takes major discipline. Focusing on being fit and healthy rather than achieving a certain look can be freeing!

I realized about 10 years later that yes, I may be a little stubborn!  I didn’t need to compete with anyone else, only myself and what “healthy” and whole looks like for me. I started to focus on where I am in this moment rather than what I’m not .

What are your motives behind being healthy? The truth is that we will always be changing and growing. The challenge is if we are going to enjoy the journey.  Making small adjustments to your diet and exercise program is key.

Taking out the foods that aren’t making you feel good and replacing them with whole foods that will not only rev your metabolism, but will also give you great energy and revitalize your skin!  So this month let’s focus on making small exchanges rather than taking everything out at once. This will also prepare you for the next post!

A great place to start would be with our thoughts by replacing negative frustrating thoughts with life filled sustaining thoughts!

Awake each morning and be thankful for this day. I am blessed in this day and in the fruits of my body!

Honor your body by fueling it with power packed nutrients.

Portion control is key; moderation creates balance. We don’t have to complicate this. Stay tuned for the next post where I will be providing sample food plans and will be posting new recipes for you all to try and keep you on track.

Here’s to your healthy, happy ,whole new you!

Enjoy your journey….

Lots of Love,

Stef

Sweet Potatoes: More Than Just For A Holiday Treat

Sweet Potatoes: More than Just for a Holiday Treat

When entering into the holiday season we are surrounded by so many delectable treats for both dinner and dessert. How many can you name? What are your favorites?

Around Thanksgiving and sometimes Christmas and New Year’s (depending on the family), we come across a lot of different ways to cook and eat sweet potatoes. Sometimes my family will eat some sweet potato dishes all year long.

How many can you name?

We have: sweet potato soufflé, sweet potato pie, baked sweet potatoes, boiled sweet potatoes, steamed sweet potatoes…

Even though sweet potatoes are sweet and yummy, they are actually GOOD for you! Something that is both healthy and tastes good. That’s the kind of health food I like, too. Let’s explore why they are good for you.

Vitamins

Sweet potatoes are loaded with an assortment of important vitamins including: Vitamin C, B Vitamins (B6, B12, B1, B2, and B3), biotin (AKA Vitamin B7), pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5), and Vitamin A.

For a chart of the Daily Values click here.

Minerals

Sweet potatoes also contain an assortment of minerals as well: manganese, copper, phosphorus, and potassium.

They are also an excellent source of fiber.

Other Health Benefits of Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes also contain nutrients that help with inflammation and regulating blood sugar. They also contain batatins that have antifungal and antibacterial properties which are not fully understood at this time.

Sweet Potatoes of a Different Color

Not all sweet potatoes are all the same orange color that we are familiar with, they can be purple which they contain more antioxidants than simply beta carotene. Purple sweet potatoes contain cyanins and peondins in the flesh as opposed to the skin. Antioxidants are important in helping eliminate free radicals and heavy metals that are harmful to the body.

Spicing Things Up

Adding spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves not only adds some great taste and pizzazz to sweet potatoes, they also add other nutritional benefits and antioxidants as well.

It’s amazing to me that something that is known as a vegetable and super-food can be found at the dessert table and can be eaten for that same reason. So here are some good reasons why you can eat sweet potatoes all year long and not just as a Holiday treat!

Benefits of Bentonite Clay

 Benefits of Bentonite Clay

Have you heard the term “God made dirt, dirt won’t hurt”? Well in the case of Bentonite clay, not only will it not hurt, but it seems to offersan array of health benefits!

Bentonite Clay is a healing Clay that can assist the body in internal detoxification. If you have been looking for a way to rid your body of the many toxins we are exposed to daily, then Bentonite Clay could be your answer.

According to a study done by PubMed.gov clay has been successful at absorbing the Rotavirus. It is also been helpful in eliminating digestive issues such as IBS, constipation, and vomiting. It is even safe to use for your pets.

There are many foods that contain contaminates and the clay draws these out of the body, therefore increasing your immune function. Bentonite Clay contains an abundance of minerals that are very important in maintaining good health.

Bentonite Clay can be useful for skin conditions such as Psoriasis, Dermatitis, and Eczema. Mix with water and let dry on the skin. They have been using this age old beauty secret at spas for years!

You can add the clay to your bath as well to draw out toxins and will leave your skin feeling smooth, hydrated and less inflamed.

Another one of the many health benefits of Bentonite Clay is its ability to get oxygen to your cells. Since oxygen is the first thing we would die without, then I think it is pretty important to have an oxygen rich body. I talk more about this in my book“A Battle Plan For Cancer”.

Another thing you may have heard a lot lately is how acidic our bodies can become with the Standard American Diet(which spells SAD). Bentonite clay has an abundance of alkalizing minerals and can help bring our bodies pH into a more optimal range.

Bentonites Clay helps to remove toxins and a promotes good bacteria in the gut.

Bentonite Clay can also be used to make toothpaste.  It binds to the harmful toxins in our mouth and allows us to spit them out before swallowing them. You can also just rinse your mouth out with the clay and water as well for oral health benefits.

For those looking for alternative products for your babies, the clay can be used as a baby powder!

A study form Arizona State University found it effective in killing MRSA. Bentonite Clay has been used effectively for years and still offers many healing health benefits for us today.

Here is a brand that can be used internally and externally that is a good price on Amazon. What are your favorite uses of Bentonite Clay or which use are you most excited to try?

Help! I Am an Emotional Eater!

Help! I am an emotional eater!

If this is you and your emotional eating seems to derail you from your goals then you are in the right place. I understand how hard it is to resist the foods that make us feel so good when we eat them!

Sometimes this seems like an impossible feat since you are bombarded with temptation at every corner right? The t.v. commercials, the billboards, the smell of the bakery etc….Between you seeing these ads and smelling the baked goods some days you just say to heck with it, I deserve this.

Or you may be thinking I have had a hard day, or its the weekend, or I will start back on Monday(this one is my favorite). Whatever the reason we have to realize that when we eat by emotions or impulse that we almost always will make an irrational food choice.

My Grandfather was always bragging on what a healthy eater I was and eating a lot seemed to make him proud of me, that stuck with me throughout life.

Sometimes when you identify the triggers for yourself you can begin to change that thought pattern. If you know that when you get stressed you always reach for the cookies then you can try both of these tactics. First thing remove those comfort foods from your reach.

Then find a healthy alternative to replace the habit. For example, you may find a quiet place and take ten deep belly breaths and start reminding yourself that you are in control of your vessel it does not control you!

Another great way to kill two birds with one stone is to exercise. If you are in a place to do that, taking a walk, a jog, hiking, a kickboxing class, etc… are great ways to redirect those emotions to empower you to win the battle!

I have struggled on and off with emotional eating my whole life. I have found comfort in cookies, sugar, and carbs and honestly it makes me feel better temporarily. As hard as this can be in the moment you will always feel better when you choose to overcome the temptation.

You feel so strong when you don’t allow your emotions to rule your behavior. Choices always begin with thoughts so you have to go back to your thought life and begin thinking thoughts on purpose! Dr. Caroline Leaf has some great resources on this subject.

I can say no! I love feeding my body healthy foods! Choose to  think these thoughts on purpose and begin to speak them out loud as well! Make healthy confessions.

We are human and we all fall sometimes but when one of us falls there is another to pick us up and remind us that we can do this! I have fallen many times and still do, but I want to encourage you today that you can do this!

Making healthy choices is not always easy, but it is always rewarding. With discipline comes rewards! Are you an emotional eater? If you have any tactics that have worked well for you with emotional eating please leave a reply below!

Motivation for working out.

Motivation for working out?

I know how you feel. Some days it is all you can do to get through the day. To accomplish your daily tasks.

Do you put off workouts until you are overwhelmed or tired? Sometimes it is such a catch 22. You know you will feel better if you work out, but you think I don’t FEEL like working out.

Sometimes the thing we feel like doing the least is actually what will help us the most.I do believe that we all need encouragement from time to time and in some seasons more than others.

If you are in that place right now where the excuses are piling up and your workouts seem to stay on the backburner then my goal is to help you!

First of all ,the same thing does not work for everyone, so don’t try to be like your  friend. If someone seems to be able to find two hours to spend at the gym a day if that is not feasible for you. You need to find something practical that works for you and fits your lifestyle.

Decide ahead of time how much time a day you can carve out for exercise. Do you have 20 min, 30 min, 45 or an hour? This will depend on your schedule. Then make the decision whether or not you will work out at home or in a gym setting.Put it on your calendar.

Some people thrive in a gym setting and others not so much. You are an individual and need to find out what makes you tick. Do you enjoy outdoors or indoor workouts? Are you a morning or evening person?

If you know already that you are too tired after your day to exercise in the evening then go ahead and plan on doing it first thing in the morning before everything else.

I know we all have good intentions, but I for instance am a morning person and if I do not work out first thing no matter how much I plan on doing it later, 9 times out of 10 it NEVER happens.

Find an activity you enjoy. This is a key to consistency. If you enjoy what you are doing then it is fun rather than a chore. I use my walking in the morning as a time to pray, reflect, and have time to myself. With four boys, I cherish that quiet time to myself to rejuvenate.

If you are more motivated when you have a buddy to keep you accountable then go ahead and find someone with the same schedule to meet and workout. This can be great, you are helping someone else and it helps you in the process!

One thing I can tell you is that you will always feel better after a workout. I have never regretted working out, but I have many times regretted not working out. If you need some simple at home workouts check out this post.

Planning ahead and making exercise a priority is a must or you will always find excuses to put it off. Be sure to share below by commenting what tactics have helped you stay encouraged to work out.

Tiny Seeds With Explosive Health Benefits

Tiny Seeds With Explosive Health Benefits

If your like me the first time I ever heard the word Chia, was the Chia pet commercials advertised on television. I often wondered since I started eating Chia seeds if it was the same seeds used in those Chia Pets and yes they were.

The Chia seeds were a prized food used by the Aztecs and Mayans. These tiny seeds were known for the great source of energy they provided. “Chia” is the ancient Mayan word for strength.

Chia Seeds are a tiny seeds with explosive health benefits. Chia seeds are one of natures richest antioxidants. One of the many benefits of antioxidant rich foods is slowing down the signs of ageing.

Many of us could stop with that, right?  Antioxidants also may play a role in disease prevention such as cancer and heart disease among providing many other health benefits.

Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber providing 11 grams per once. High fiber diets may protect against type 2 diabetes as fiber is essential for balancing insulin levels.

If you are looking for nutrient dense foods to add to your diet for your weight loss goals Chia seeds are a simple addition.

They keep you feeling full longer, therefore may help with your appetite. Chia seeds are also a great source of plant based protein and can replace some of the nutrients lost in exercise, in addition to preventing dehydration.

Chia seeds are not only noted to help boost metabolism, but may help reduce belly fat as well. They can help regulate bowel movements and promote healthy stool.

A surprise to me was finding out that Chia seeds contain more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon and the best part is they are so easy to add to your diet! Omega 3’s can help lower blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and reduce inflammation.

Consuming a diet high in plant based foods is noted for reducing the risk of disease and supporting overall health.

5 Simple WaysTo Use Chia Seeds

2. Make your own cereal using your favorite nuts, seeds, and fruits with some almond milk

Do You Have A Toxic Liver?

Do You Have A Toxic Liver?liver

Most of us take better care of our cars than we do our bodies. We change the oil in our vehicles on a regular basis unless we want our cars to tear up, right?

Most of us don’t think twice about neglecting our bodies filter(our liver) for an entire lifetime. This makes no sense because cars can be replaced, but we only get one body!

Your liver is designed to detoxify and cleanse itself ,but the liver can easily be over burdened and kept from performing its procedures with the toxic environment and our lifestyle choices.

A toxic liver can lead to all kinds of health problems including cancer. A person with a congested liver is usually a highly allergic person and eventually can become allergic to almost everything.

If the liver is not filtering properly then molecules end up in the bloodstream that should not be there. Slowly but surely your body will end up reacting to everything.

If you have a toxic liver then you may have digestive problems, gallbladder problems, increased cholesterol and more.

As the blood becomes thick with fat, vessels become clogged, as vessels become clogged then blood pressure goes up.

Your kidneys are like a third liver and will take up the role. In most cases you will need to cleanse the liver and kidneys as well.

Blood pressure meds can also cause problems for the kidneys according to the Encyclopedia of pragmatic medicine.

Some of the obvious poisons that your liver is forced to filter are alcohol, drugs, and, cigarettes, but prescription drugs, 100% cooked diet, and processed food are also culprits.

Bad water, chlorine, too much protein, preservatives and additives like nitrates can also add to the problem. I recommend the Berkey water filter. It is the best I have found for the money!

Some liver cleansing foods you can add to your diet are garlic, onions, kale, broccoli, brussel sprouts, red peppers, cabbage, beets, asparagus, and egg yolks.

Once you begin eliminating the toxins and adding clean foods to your diet you will begin to cleanse. You may feel worse before you feel better. Old symptoms may resurface when the body begins to heal.

For steps on cleansing your liver I recommend this protocol by Dr. Axe. Following a lifestyle of clean eating and exercise and treating our bodies the way God intended will equip our bodies to work and function properly.

I believe another reason God called us to fast is because of the cleansing and health benefits it gives us as well as spiritual. Here is an article I wrote with the health benefits of fasting.

Do you have the symptoms of a toxic liver? Have you ever done a liver cleanse? If so, did it help eliminate the symptoms you were experiencing?

I challenge you adopt clean eating habits, exercise, proper rest, and good supplementation for the next 90 days and report how you feel!

Chemicals Lurking In Your Feminine Products?

Chemicals Lurking In Your Feminine Products?

This is not a topic that is brought up very often. In fact I had never heard anything about it until I recently started researching to help a dear friend suffering from Endometriosis.

Chemicals lurking in my feminine products had never even crossed my mind, but since your skin is the largest organ and absorbs what you put on it directly into your bloodstream it makes sense.

Knowing this, you should not put anything on your skin that is not safe to ingest, right? How often do you consider the ingredients in the products you use topically? I thought about creams, lotions, soaps, etc,but never a pad or tampon.

Your vaginal wall is very permeable, so absorbs very easily what is exposed to it.

We are exposed to dioxins in our environment and the EPA(environmental protection agency) states that any level of exposure can cause adverse effects to our health.

Knowing this we can at least minimize the exposure by eliminating products containing dioxins. A women uses an average of 16,800 tampons in a lifetime, so your exposure over a lifetime can really add up!

Synthetics and plastics can trap heat and dampness and promote the growth of yeast and bacteria in the vaginal area. Take a look at this video on Dr. Mercola’s website to see the first hand the chemicals in the pads.

Risks associated with the absorption of dioxins can include cancer, immune functions, increase the risks for inflammatory pelvic disease, endocrine and hormonal disruption, and endometriosis to name a few.

When I shared this information with my friend, she took heed to replace her sanitary products with chemical free ones. Some of her symptoms of the endometriosis began to subside.

The better we take care of our bodies, the more efficient the body will eliminate these toxins. Take a look at this past article I wrote on fasting and how beneficial it can be for cleansing your body.

Alternatives are out there for replacing these products. Here is a popular replacement that many are finding helpful.

Have you experienced any of the adverse effects listed above? I challenge you to make the switch and report back any changes in 90 days!

Chew Your Way To Better Health!

Chew Your Way To Better Health

Do you know how important chewing your food is for your health? If you are like most people you may have never thought about it. With millions of Americans having digestive issues, it is a subject worthy of looking at.

I know you want to feel your best and treat your body right, right? By paying attention to this one simple thing, you can chew your way to better health!

Chewing your food is the first part of your digestive process. As you chew you break the food down into smaller particles that makes digestion easier. Think about chewing each bite between 10 times for softer foods and up to 30 times for vegetables or meats.

Having the food broke into smaller particles makes it easier to absorb nutrients from your food and prevents the improperly digested food from entering your bloodstream and causing adverse effects on your health.

Are you looking to shed a few pounds? If so, chewing your food properly could be your solution. As you chew properly, around twice as long as normal you will inadvertently decrease portion sizes, calorie intake, and weight loss could be a side effect!

Your stomach does not get the signal from your brain for about 20 minutes that you are full, so if you eat like I have my whole life, in 20 minutes I am long done and have overeaten many times before I realize that I am full.

I have had slow digestion and issues with constipation and realize how not chewing my food has had a negative effect on my health.

You should not be in a hurry or stressed when eating a meal. This will cause you to eat too fast and not chew your food well. Here is a great article on the importance of relaxing at each meal!

Saliva contains digestive enzymes that aid in the digestive process. The more enzymes that are exposed to the food you eat the better it is broken down. Saliva also helps lubricate your food and makes it easier on your esophagus.

Chewing is a workout for your teeth and helps keep them strong, another great reason to do some extra chewing at your next meal.

When the food you eat is not broken down properly as it enters your intestines it actually can putrefy, potentially leading to gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, cramping, and other digestive issues.

With so may suffering from digestive problems, it makes me wonder if chewing our food properly would eliminate many of these issues? A product that I recommend that contains digestive enzymes is FibRestore. If you are interested in learning more contact me.

Have you been chewing your food properly? Do you have digestive issues? leave a reply below to answer. I also challenge you to chew your way to better health for the next 90 days and report back your results!

The key to lasting results from exercise

The key to lasting results from exerciserunning-573762__180

How to get lasting results from exercise may seem like an obvious answer, keep working out, duh! Well as easy as that may sound putting it into practice everyday can be a challenge.

I know we all want to find that one exercise that when we do it(whatever that is) we get some magical weight loss or toned hard body in only ten minutes a day.

If we focus too much on the weight loss we can get discouraged quickly and sometimes that drives us to put expectations on ourselves that we can’t keep long term.

I am sure if that was possible we would stand on our head or do whatever it took in just 10 minutes a day to get that desired result, right? Exercise can be hard work, I know and it can seem like a four letter word for some.

When you think about exercise, do you just get tired thinking about it? Do you find every reason in the world to talk yourself out of it? Does dread and a big sigh come along after you think about how to get a workout in for the day?

If you answered yes to all these questions, then it is time to change your mindset about working out, and to find something you love doing! Think about this, when you were a kid what excited you?

Being outdoors, riding bikes, walking through trails, shooting hoops, playing sports, swimming? We all had things that we did as kids, that got our heart rate up and we had a blast doing it, right?

It was no chore to sweat and play with our friends for hours was it? You were burning so many calories it may have been hard to keep weight on. This is my challenge for you today my friend. Think about what type of playing (exercise) you can do as an adult?

If you have to, then try something different every week or day(depending on your time) until you find something you love. It will be worth it! Runners, love to run. I do not like running, therefore I have never been committed to it for any length of time.

If you are not enjoying the activity, but doing it out of pure self will then it just won’t last. This is the key to get lasting results from your exercise is to find something you enjoy and have the mindset of playing, pleasure, and enjoyment.

No matter how good your intentions, when it comes to exercise, you will be much more likely to have lasting results if you enjoy what you are doing.

Sure there will be days when we just have to discipline ourselves to get some sort of a workout, but finding something you love will help you look forward to it and have some fun as well as being committed and consistent.

Please leave a reply if you have any suggestions of  an exercise that you find fun and that you look forward to.

Stay encouraged friend there is something out there you will enjoy and it will be the key to lasting results!

Have you ever noticed how most men drop weight so much faster than Women? No fair, right? Well, they generally have much more muscle mass. Muscle burns fat.

So increase your lean muscle mass and you will shed weight. Do not be afraid of lifting light weights, or simulating activities that will give you a little muscle.

2. Decrease your calorie intake

A safe way to decrease your calorie intake, is by omitting some of the sugary empty calories and adding nutrient dense foods like fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fruits.

It is not about starving, but eating the right type of calories. If you pay attention to your calorie intake for a few days, you may be surprised how many calories you are taking in including drinks.

So drinking water instead of sodas, juices, and teas will reduce your calorie intake greatly.

3. Find ways to be more active

Find an activity you enjoy that will get your heart rate up and your sweat on! Not only is this a healthy way to lose a few, but your body releases endorphins that will make you feel good as well!

4. Never starve or diet!

Yes, diet is a four letter word! When you think diet, you feel dread right? Or maybe, you feel like you are missing out?

Sometimes it just puts you in a really bad mood doesn’t it? You do not want to feel deprived, I know, no one likes to feel that way!

A lifestyle change and finding fun healthy recipes and desserts is the way to go .Focus on including the healthy foods you love and finding great recipes rather than focusing on what you can not have.

When you start learning the ways to enjoy healthy foods, then you start crowding out the foods that are not so good by default.

5. Make it about more than you!

Set goals for your weight loss based on how this will improve your health for the benefit of others, then you will have more lasting success.

Just start writing down all the ways losing excess weight will improve your life and make you more efficient in all your duties.

I will be a better Mother, because I can start playing with my kids more. I will be healthier and a better example to my family.

I can be a better wife, because I will have more energy to spend time with my husband. I can be an example to others. If I reach my goals, it will help them believe they can too!

Every decision begins with a thought, so you have to make a decision to take action. Stop and think, how you view the idea of weight loss?

Does it seem impossible to you? Then it will be. First you have to believe that you can! Then make decisions every day that will take you closer to your goal.

Pray for the help to renew your mind and have a healthy mindset towards weight loss and a right attitude.

I challenge you to apply these 5 simple steps for healthy weight loss for the next 90 days and to share your results with me!

Motivation for a Healthy Lifestyle

Motivation for a Healthy Lifestylejump-493889__180

My friend, we all need motivation in our lives at times . Do not let that make you feel bad. We need each other in this journey.

I know you want to be healthy, right? O.K. and most of us have a pretty good idea of what it takes to have a healthy lifestyle. So what is stopping you from making the right choices?

Do you feel as if you have failed so many times before, so then what is the point? That is the enemy’s voice wanting you to feel hopeless, and we have all felt that in some area of life!

What is going on in your life today that may be overwhelming you? Do you feel like, “I just can’t’?” Get some quiet time and take an inventory of your life today.

Is there some unresolved issue, a broken relationship, or an unhealthy mindset?

These are all things that can hinder your progress in developing a healthy lifestyle. We all face challenges, but unresolved areas can prevent us from moving forward and can wreak havoc on our health as well.

A healthy lifestyle begins with a healthy spirit and soul. Your mind, will, and emotions (soul) play a major role on the health of your body. For more details on this pick up a copy of my book “A Battle Plan For Cancer”.

It is a decision to create a healthy lifestyle for yourself, but it can be the hardest thing to stick to and not be double minded.

I know we have all said this, I will start on Monday. Then Monday arrives, and then we have a big, fat excuse! The first thing you need to do today is figure out your ‘why’!

Why do I want to live a healthy lifestyle? Put your ‘why’ on a piece of paper and keep it before you. If you have several ‘whys’, then put them throughout your house, reminders on your phone, etc.

Decide on your why. It may be, I am going to be a better wife, so my husband reaps the benefits, and we will have a healthier marriage as a result. Sometimes we are more motivated, if it helps someone else!

Once you have made a decision then make a list of how you will accomplish this goal.

1. Walking with a buddy

2.Riding bikes with the kids

3. Rollerblading with the family

3.Eating more vegetables and fruits

4. Getting more sleep

5. Going to bed earlier

6. Getting a sabbath rest

7. Praying and spending more time with God

8. Finding healthy dessert recipes

9. Planning meals ahead

10. Packing a cooler(so I am never anywhere without a healthy)

If you found any of this information as motivation for a healthy lifestyle , pay it forward by sharing with others. Also leave a reply below and be a part of motivating another. What has worked for you?

Do you have Adrenal Fatigue?

Do you have Adrenal Fatigue?download

First of all you may say, “What are adrenals and what is adrenal fatigue? The adrenal glands are located on the top of each kidney.

These small endocrine glands are responsible for a variety of hormones that regulate blood pressure, how our body uses food,  levels of minerals in the blood, and many more functions.

Adrenal fatigue is a collection of signs and symptoms, known as a syndrome, that results when the adrenal glands function below the necessary level.

Adrenal fatigue is caused when your adrenal glands cannot meet the demands of added stress. It is no surprise that millions of Americans suffer from adrenal fatigue with our busy lives.

We have a very fast-paced lifestyle. The stress levels have changed, but our bodies have not and were not created to deal with those demands on a regular long-term basis.

Refer back to my article on How to reduce stress, as we all need some advice in this area. Stress is linked to a variety of disorders that plague our western society. Take a deep breath and de-stress.

Adrenal fatigue may also be caused by poor lifestyle choices over a period of time. For example, someone who has eaten a lot of refined foods and sugar will have a hormonal imbalance with insulin and cortisol.

The constant secretion of cortisol in response to poor eating habits an/ or chronic stress can weaken the adrenals and lead to fatigue.

Not getting enough sleep can weaken the adrenals. Trauma, which can be physical or emotional or psychological and not effectively dealing with stress can overload the system and cause severe adrenal fatigue.

Some of the symptoms you may experience from adrenal fatigue are: feeling tired for no reason, waking up feeling tired even though you had plenty of rest, feeling rundown, overwhelmed, cravings for salty or sweet foods.

Oversensitivity of the eyes to bright sunlight can indicate adrenal problems, but being in the midday sun without sunglasses will actually strengthen the adrenals.

Pale lips could also indicate weak adrenals as well as unexplained back or knee pain. Also balding on the lower legs can indicate you may need adrenal support.

High anxiety, sugar imbalances, panic attacks, and low energy can be related to adrenal fatigue. You need to eliminate coffee and refined sugar as they both wreak havoc on the Adrenal glands.

Good news is dietary and lifestyle changes can restore your burned out adrenals. You may want to see a Natural Healthcare Professional for saliva testing and a protocol for Adrenal Fatigue.

Here are some of the recommended supplements for restoring your Adrenals. A good Celtic sea salt and elimination of regular table salt is recommended. 2,000-4,000 mg/day of Vitamin C is also recommended. Foods to juice: Hot peppers, Kale, parsley, collard, turnip greens, broccoli, and lemons.sunrise surprise

Vitamin B complex take as directed. Foods to juice: Spinach, Kale, and avocado. I will include a recipe here for a good one! Magnesium citrate at 400-1,200 mg/day. Trace minerals also have a calming effect.

I have personally suffered from adrenal fatigue and anxiety. Honestly, when I take my Reliv, stay away from caffeine and sugar, juice the foods listed above, and in  add some additional Vitmain C, magnesium, and B vitamins, I can see major improvements.

If you have anything to add or would like further information on Adrenals please leave a comment below.

How to Build a Better Smoothie

How to Build a Better Smoothie008

When building a smoothie, you want to consider a couple of things. You want to get good nutrition and  make it taste great at the same time. These two combinations can be a challenge until you find the right balance.

I love to eat, and I want my food to taste good.I also want to be healthy, but I still want my food to taste good. I have experimented for years with smoothies and will go over a recipe that I really enjoy. I will explain–step by step–how I build a better smoothie/juice.

I have started using a Nutribullet, but you can use whatever device you want that has a powerful enough motor to chop frozen fruit, nuts, and seeds.005Begin with a leafy green as a base.

If you are new to juicing or smoothies, I suggest beginning with spinach. I put about 3/4 of a cup at the bottom of my cup.

Prevention states loading up on leafy greens can help reduce cancer risks. In my book A Battle Plan For Cancer I go over the benefits of adding nutrient dense foods to your diet.

Then use a 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 cup of pineapple, 1/2 avocado, 1/4 cup raw almonds, 1 tsp chiaseeds or flaxseeds, 1 tsp of cinnamon. Then fill water to fill line and blend until creamy.

I put my bananas in a freezer bag and freeze them. This is a great idea when bananas get ripe. Do not waste them, just peel and freeze them. The avocado makes the consistency very creamy and thick like a milkshake. Here is an article I did on the health benefits of avocado.004

For information on the health benefits of bananas read this. Flaxseeds are a great addition to any smoothie recipe with the host of benefits for your health. They provide omega 3 fatty acids that we lack in our diet. Flaxseeds are a great source of fiber and can assist in removing mucous and toxins from our intestines.

Cinnamon is noted for helping regulate blood sugar as well as many other benefits to our health. Medical News Today states pineapple as the only known source of an enzyme called bromelain that may help alleviate joint pain, arthritis, reduce inflammation, and inhibit tumor growth.

The fiber and water content of pineapple can also help prevent constipation. Not only is pineapple super sweet and makes a smoothie or juice recipe taste fantastic, but is nutritious as well.

I challenge you to replace one meal a day with a super nutritious and delicious smoothie. Report to me in one month the changes you see. I did this myself for a month and saw a reduction in my blood pressure. I lost inches, I gained more energy, and felt a sense of well being.

Amazing uses for baking soda

Amazing uses for baking soda007

Baking soda can be purchased for around 50 cents a box at some stores, and it may just be the most cost effective product in your home. Baking soda may be sitting in your fridge just taking up space, but I am going to share how many amazing uses there are for this one simple product.

If you are concerned with the pesticides on your produce, then baking soda is a good way to remove them. Baking soda can be mixed with water to clean and deodorize your fridge. It also removes surface stains from your counter tops.

You can use a cup of baking soda, followed by a cup of hot white vinegar, and then a quart of boiling water to flush drains. Baking soda can also be used to remove the red sauce stains from your plastic.

Baking soda can also be used for a non-toxic detergent for your babies’ clothes as well as removing sweat stains. You make a past with water and baking soda and leave on the stains for an hour before washing.

You can also use it as a bath soak for dry skin as well as relief for sunburned or itchy skin. I do not measure but around a half a cup should be plenty. You can also scrub rough heels and exfoliate skin on the body and face.

Among baking soda’s many uses, it is a known deodorizer. You can use it for under arm deodorant as well as deodorizing shoes. Another great use is for your carpets. Sprinkle all over carpets, let sit for 30 minutes or so, and vacuum. This website focuses solely on cleaning uses for baking soda.

One of the latest uses I have heard, but not actually tested yet, is alkalizing your bodies PH. Many testimonies can be found on YouTube where people have used baking soda and lemon for this purpose and even in their regimen for cancer? Dr Axe explains the importance of an alkaline body in this article.

Baking soda is an old remedy for heartburn that is making new headlines these days. Baking soda has several amazing uses that may replace other products in your home. It has become one of my favorite products and is a great go-to for those looking to live healthy on a budget.

Natural remedies for GERD (acid reflux)

  Natural remedies for GERD

Today I hear people complain about acid reflux and how miserable it is. If you are like the 60 million Americans that suffer with symptoms of GERD each month, here are some natural remedies that may bring you some needed relief.

To prevent the symptoms of acid reflux, here are some natural options that may help you avoid it  Turmeric is a spice that is a digestive aid. If you are eating something that normally causes you heartburn then spice up your meal with turmeric.

To check out some of the conventional medications and the risks associated with them for the treatment of GERD( gastroesophageal reflux disease), check out this information from Dr. Mercola. You can educate yourself on the best options for you.

Foods that may help prevent the acid reflux/heartburn are bananas, leafy greens, oatmeal, rice, fennel, and parsley.

A diet that is composed of fresh fruits and vegetables can be helpful, but if you have a hard time digesting raw vegetables, try soaking them in lemon 3 hours before eating. Lemon helps to partly digest the hard parts of the greens to digest.

You can use a tablespoon of extra- virgin, cold pressed olive oil about 15 minutes before a meal to help prevent symptoms. Keep chewable papaya tablets with you to take at the first sign of heartburn.

Once you are experiencing the symptoms of GERD and need relief try a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar. Check out this video blog for different ways to use apple cider vinegar, Bragg is the brand I use.

Another natural remedy for your heartburn is a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. My husband has acid reflux, and when I had him try this it gave him instant relief from the burning.

Smoking can increase your risk of developing GERD. Smoking can make the symptoms of acid reflux worse. So if you did not have enough reasons to quit smoking, here is a another!

Avoid overeating to help naturally eliminate your symptoms of acid reflux. Aloe Vera can also be very healing to your digestive system and can be a great way to naturally help alleviate the heartburn.

If any of these remedies have worked for you or if you have any to add, please join the conversation and comment below. If you found this information useful then pay it forward by sharing on your social media and email list.
